Collection: Vinos Malaparte
Elisa de Frutos and Rubén Salamanca are the winemakers behind the Vinos Malaparte wine brand, but the grapes were planted in the vineyards back in 1996 by Mariano de Frutos. He had always dreamed of making his own wine and started with 3.5 hectares of Tempranillo vineyards.
The family business was founded in 2004, and the first wine from the 2007 harvest was sold. Elisa handles the commercial side, while Rubén manages the technical side, ensuring the wine is produced organically and, with the exception of a small amount of sulfur, completely without artificial additives.
Currently, 5.5 hectares near Cuéllar, surrounded by pine trees, are under cultivation. Viticulture is partly experimental, but always natural. The area has a continental climate, with quite cold winters and very hot summers. Temperatures can fluctuate between -10 and 40 degrees Celsius. The vineyard is located at an altitude of approximately 900 meters above sea level on limestone, sand, and clay soil. Originally, only red grape varieties such as Tempranillo, Syrah, and Garnacha were cultivated. Elisa and Rubén later expanded to include white varieties such as Albillo Mayor, Muscat Yellow, Godello, and Verdejo. The average age of the Godello vines is around 100 years; they originate from Zamora.
Historical Spanish methods are employed, including the use of old barriques and century-old clay pots, as well as modern temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and American and French oak barrels. The result is exciting, fresh, and robust wines that reflect the herbaceous spiciness of the pine trees.
