For two decades, Judith Beck has shaped winemaking in Gols, a small village in Burgenland near Lake Neusiedl. In 2004, she took over the family winery and has gradually developed it into a place where nature and craftsmanship exist in close symbiosis. Early on, she decided to pursue biodynamic farming – a bold step that means more than simply forgoing synthetic substances. It is a philosophy built on trust, patience, and a deep understanding of the cycles of nature.
Judith Beck's wines are characterized by restraint in the cellar and a precise feel for the terroir. The soils around Gols, with their diversity – from barren gravel to sandy-loamy sites and calcareous inclusions – offer ideal conditions for a wide range of grape varieties. This diversity is reflected in a broad portfolio: from traditional varieties such as Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch to Welschriesling, Furmint, and Pinot Blanc.
A particularly exciting chapter in Judith's work is the "Bambule!" wine. Here, characterful natural wines are created with minimal intervention. Spontaneous fermentation, no fining or filtration, hardly any sulfur – instead, Judith allows the wines to mature according to their own dynamics. For example, instead of pressing the Welschriesling immediately, it is sometimes left uncrushed on the skins for several days. This approach lends the wines not only structure but also expressiveness – especially in the warm Pannonian climate, where early ripening and high must weights challenge the balance.
Today, the Judith Beck winery stands for authentic, vibrant wines that embody their origin and personal touch. It is less a place of staging than a quiet stage for sustainable work – characterized by the desire not to control everything, but to let go and listen to nature. A principle that distinguishes not only their wines, but also their approach.
