His approach is radically simple: Nature is allowed to do what it can. And Claus only does what's truly necessary. For him, biodynamic farming isn't a marketing ploy, but a silent pact with the soil. No copper, no herbicides, no nonsense. Instead, manual labor, intuition, and patience. Lots of patience.
In the cellar, tranquility reigns. Spontaneous fermentation, used wooden barrels, no filtration, and, if it suits him, no sulfur. His wines don't taste of control, but of freedom. They aren't made, they've simply become.
What makes Claus special? Perhaps it's that he never compromises his principles. In 2002, he delivered his first Pannobile cuvée to his colleagues in a VW van, complete with board shorts, a hoodie, and a baseball cap. Ridiculed at the time, he's a style icon today. Claus has never tried to be anyone else. And that's precisely what makes him credible and his wines so distinctive.
Whether a light-footed "Puszta Libre" or a profound Blaufränkisch, each wine bears its signature: precise, pure, full of tension. They don't need to be loud. They stay with you because they are honest.
